Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round
Saturday 20th August 2016

First half goals from Simon Unwin and Cameron Watson saw us through into the 1st Qualifying Round of this year’s Emirates FA Cup as the team had to come from behind to secure victory.

United took an early lead when Tom Moran was unfortunate to guide a free kick past Conroy after four minutes but this early setback did not prove to be decisive as Unwin struck the equalizer on 18 minutes before Watson scored what proved to be the winner just before the half hour.

United put the pressure on in the second half but the defence stood firm before the referee awarded the home side a penalty with less than five minutes left on the clock. It looked like the tie was going to go to a replay but the penalty was lifted high over the bar and we saw the game out for a very welcome win.

A busy weekend awaits us before we travel to Lowestoft Town in the First Qualifying Round on 3rd September. High flying Farnborough visit The Glassworld Stadium on Sarturday before we make the short journey down the A10 to take on Royston Town on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon.
