|Hawkins & Hicks latest to sign|
Harri Hawkins and Nathan Hicks signed Conference Forms last night after the game against Colchester United and both are likely to be involved tonight when we take on Braintree Town here at The Glass World.
Hawkins was a regular starter at left back last season and has graduated through the Scholarship Programme here at Bridge Road. Manager Brian Page was expecting to lose the 19 year old defender this season though but explained “Harri is going to the USA on a Scholarship but he doesn’t go now until the end of September so is able to be involved for us up until then. Left back is an area we are short in at the moment so having Harri available gives me a bit of time to sign the right long term replacement. Harri’s been great for us for all the time he’s been here so to know I have got him even if it’s just for the first few weeks of the season is good news.”
Midfielder Hicks also put pen to paper last night and has been involved in all of the pre-season games so far. The 21 year old started his career with Leicester City and was most recently with Kettering Town and Page was again very happy to have secured another signature for his squad stating “Nathan has been with us since we returned to training a few weeks ago and he impressed us right from the start. He will bring a physical presence to the midfield and a bit of experience but he knows how to play the game too and has a good range of passing. He’s a good addition to the squad and gives us some depth and competition for places.”
The squad is shaping up well now but Page hasn’t finished recruiting, “there’s still room for two or three more to come into the squad” he said “and with any luck we’ll get the ones we want agreed soon. There’s still the option of going into the loan market as well and I’m talking to a couple of clubs about players that would fit into what we’re doing here. There’s still time though so I’m not too concerned yet and the quality we already have here is high so we’re feeling positive and are looking forward to some big games during the next week or so.”
Players currently signed for the 2013-14 season are:
Joe Asensi, Omar Beckles, Charlie Binns, Remy Clerima, Charlie Day, Jay Dowie, Harri Hawkins, Nathan Hicks, Calum Kitscha, Eugene Libertucci, Zak Mills, Grant Roberts, Kaine Sheppard and Lewis Taaffe. As well as the senior players, all of the 2nd and 3rd year Scholars will be available as and when required.
