| The Histon Invitation Cup – 25 July 2010 | ||
![]() The first Histon Invitation Cup Have you ever dreamed of becoming a professional footballer? Have you ever dreamed of playing in front of thousands of fans singing your name week in week out? Histon Football Club is now offering a special match day opportunity for local colts/mini league teams to live the dream and play on the Glassworld Stadium pitch. The Histon Invitation Cup is a 4 team, 5-a-side knock-out tournament, with a prize for the winning team! The tournament will take place before or after first team home games (weather permitting) and will last for a maximum of 40 minutes. We were delighted to kick off the FIRST EVER Invitation Cup by welcoming the players, parents and managers of Histon Hornets under 7s, 8s, 9s and 10s at the African National Select XI friendly on July 21st. The boys that participated from the Hornets teams were mixed up into 4 different teams. Spain, England, Ivory Coast and Brazil. Congratulations to all the players in the Spain team who went on to win the Invitation Cup after a tense sudden death penalty shootout against - yes, you got it - England!! All the players were then invited to become guard of honour mascots and take part in a half time penalty shootout. Bruce Clark, Histon Hornets under 8s Manager commented after the Tournament: "The boys had a great time playing on the pitch before the game. If you keep this strategy up over the season you will add to the home gate and make some new Histon fans. We would be delighted to play again later on in the season if there is an opportunity. Keep up the good work and pass on our thanks to the directors." All the children were a credit to their club. On behalf of Histon FC I would like to thank all those for supporting and attending this great event and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future. For more information about the event or to book your team into the Cup please contact Alex Kaufman, Football in the Community Officer: FITC@histonfc.co.uk -- Alex Kaufman |

| Manor Community College - Rags to Riches Fashion Show - 22 July 2010 | ||
On Wednesday 30th June, Histon FC FITC was invited to attend a Rags to Riches fashion show at Manor Community College. This was a great opportunity to build our links with one of our friends and neighbours schools, while appreciating some fantastic work from the participating children and their incredibly hard working and imaginative teachers. The Fashion Show was great entertainment, and in my opinion, very eye opening. The effect of recycling and being resourceful is so important to the world. Without it, at the largest scale, we would be draining the world resources leaving us polluting, destroying life as we know it, homeless, without food and a way of life. Below is the story of the Rags to Riches Fashion Show written by Naila Din, Director of Creative Arts at the Manor CC: Rags 2 Riches Fashion Show - started at the Manor in 2006. The show has seen much interest over the years, from outside organisations keen to promote the ethos of recycling and reusing. Colleges around the country are now offering similar shows setting challenges for students to explore waste through Fashion and Design. The event at the Manor Community College is sponsored by environmental agencies who award students for their innovative designs. The sponsors for the event are CCORRN (Cambridge Community Reuse and Recycle Network), Donarbon, Sustainable City at Cambridge City Council, Sue Ryder Care, Scrap Stores and HEART FM. This year the theme of the Rags 2 Riches Show was 'we are the world'. Students explored cultures from around the world making outfits from waste materials; nothing could be purchased. We are proud of all the students who took part in the event and in particular the winning students who are here tonight to share their achievement with you. If you want to take part in the challenge next year - ask your school for an entry form which will be in your schools in November. Maybe we might even have Lilly Cole take an interest in what we at the Manor are doing in the name of Fashion and Design. As part of FITC attending the event, we invited all the winners of the various awards down to the Glassworld to be Guests of Honour. For which they fittingly attended the pre- season friendly against the African National Select side. The students were presented on the pitch before the game and had the opportunity for photos and autographs with the players after the game. On behalf of Histon Football Club, we hope you all enjoyed your evening and we hope and look forward to seeing you at our games again soon. I would like to congratulate the Headteacher Ben Slade, Director of Creative Arts Naila Din, Ewen Chamberlain for inviting myself along, all the teaching staff and all the parents involved for a great evening and we hope that it can be the first of many links with Manor Community College. The winners and runners up of the show are as follows: Eco Chic Award from SUE RYDER CARE: Winner - Morta Maneikyte Runner-up - Charlane Strange Innovation Award from CCORRN (Cambridge Community Reuse and Recycle Network) Winner - Charlotte Donald Runner up - Salma Begum Sustainable City Award - Cambridge City Council Winner - Sophie Perkins Runner-up Lara Mackey Design Award from Donarbon Winner Amena Begum Runner-up Joanne Coupe Heart FM work experience award Lauran Marsh Football skills - was Leo Bottembley, James Champion, Afzol Hussain, Luke Balaam. | Alex Kaufman Attends Orchard Park Primary School's Sports Day - 19 July 2010 | ||
![]() A very important part of our football club are the residents of the neighbouring Orchard Park area. I was very fortunate to have been invited to the local school, Orchard Park Primary, to attend their annual sports day on 15 July 2010. With the school having fewer than 100 children currently walking in the school gates every day, the school has a great unity about it. The teachers are very warming and friendly and every single child is treated as an individual. This is evident by the fact the kids seem to have a lot of respect for the teachers and vice versa. A very happy school where everyone is polite and friendly. The children were put into ‘house groups’ which were determined by colour. There were 8 stations, with each station being a different event such as egg and spoon races, bean bag balancing, obstacle courses, football dribbling and throwing events. There were also running races for the KS2 children. The event was really well organised and the kids showed excellent attitude and teamwork, working hard on all the events and helping each other out. Especially as there were points at stake!!! As part of FITC being involved, every child in the winning ‘house group’ received a mascot prize for our first home game of the season against Barrow FC. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE CHILDREN IN THE RED ‘HOUSE’. I was delighted to present the mascot prizes and everyone at Histon FC is looking forward to seeing the children and their families at the game. Alex Kaufman FITCO ![]() |

| Introduction from Alex Kaufman - 9 July 2010 | ||
July 9th 2010 With the new Blue Square Bet Premier season upon us and the on and off the field regimes starting to take place what better way to celebrate Histon Football Club's 4th season of top level non league football than introducing myself to everyone at the club, everyone in the community and hopefully to all you current and future fans who will take part with the club in someway or form in the near and not so distant future. I am delighted to announce I will be the Club's first ever Football In the Community Officer. A role that I am delighted to be taking up and one of massive importance not just to the club but to the surrounding communities aswell. My main aim is to provide opportunities and experiences for people of many different backgrounds, age, race, gender or religion and to include them in the participation of sport and Histon Football Club. I will be focusing on Education, Health, Social Inclusion and Crime Reduction. There will also be a ‘Kick It Out’ campaign with our Club Kick Out racism officer, Julie Kigira, who will be involved with many community initiatives. This is all a huge way of helping to promote and bring in more great football fans to Histon Football Club, THE MOST SUCCESSFUL VILLAGE TEAM IN THE COUNTRY. I look forward to working with everyone in the community, and I would like to thank the board of directors, John Beck and all the Academy staff for helping and supporting me in my new role and making this possible. Up the Stutes!!!
