It was third time lucky as this fixture finally went ahead and Histon came out the other side as convincing victors.

There were some chances early on for the hosts as they looked for an opening goal. Amanda Binge sliced a difficult shot wide of the mark with 7 minutes gone, a corner from Sophie Lanham went across the goal mouth two minutes later and Georgia Day had an effort cleared off the line after a Charlotte Westrope corner from the opposite side with a quarter of an hour gone.

The first goal came with 17 minutes gone after a diagonal ball from Lanham gave Abi Davies some space down the right. Her cross went over goalkeeper Danielle Lynch and was put over the line by a defender as they attempted to clear the danger.

The only other good chance of the first half fell to Ipswich in the 23rd minute, Tarnya McKew firing wide of the near right post.

After the break the hosts pushed for a second goal and had four chances in the space of six minutes, the first coming from Katie Seagrave with 52 minutes gone after her persistence meant she won the ball back but her low shot curled just wide of the far right post with Lynch beaten.

Davies then drove low and wide of the far left post after Hannah Gordon fed her the ball on the other side of the area in the 54th minute, Lanham playing the ball back into a dangerous area two minutes later, an attempted clearance going into the air near the goal line and Westrope heading over from close range when it seemed easier to score.

Day then shot wide from the edge of the area with 57 minutes gone.

A low shot by Jade Horne was well saved at the near right post by home goalkeeper Keeley Robinson with 63 minutes on the watch before the second goal came with 74 gone, Lanham’s corner ending with a Binge effort being blocked and cleared back out to the former, whose ball towards goal went through Lynch’s legs at the near left post and into the net.

Two more goals then followed, Tess Shaw causing problems at the near left post following a Lanham corner and Seagrave put the ball into the top left corner with the outside of her right boot from near the post in the 81st minute, Day’s square ball to Lanham giving the latter the chance to loop a 20 yard effort into the bottom left corner two minutes before the end.

McKew also had a shot from 25 yards well held by Robinson after 86 minutes.
